A real-time camera · above-water · looking down

See into
the water.

Hold your phone over the water — DepthGaze fights glare and restores colour in real time, on-device. Classical computer vision, no AI.

01 · What it does  · Three things, on every frame

A live viewfinder for water — not a filter, not a post-processor.

Every frame from your phone's camera goes through the pipeline before it reaches your eye. What you compose is what you see, enhanced.

01 / Glare

Suppresses surface glare.

The white sheen of sun on a flat water surface gets attenuated without crushing the colour-saturated highlights underneath.

02 / Colour cast

Restores colour at depth.

Water absorbs red first, then orange, then yellow. Beer-Lambert physics-based correction reverses that absorption per channel.

03 / Detail

Lifts subsurface contrast.

Local-contrast amplification reveals subsurface texture — substrate, weed beds, the shape of fish — that washes out in raw camera output.

02 · How it works  · Open phone, point, see

Three steps — and you're already using it.

No setup, no calibration, no account. Open the app, choose a mode, hold the phone over the water.

01

Open the camera.

DepthGaze is a live viewfinder, not a post-processing app. The first frame is already enhanced.

02

Pick a mode.

Six specialist modes for different conditions. Or let Smart Mode pick the right one for what it sees.

03

Hold above the water.

Phone above the surface, looking down. Stand on the boat, the pier, the rock, the shore. DepthGaze does the rest.

03 · Modes  · Side-by-side

Tap a mode. See the difference.

Six specialist modes, each tuned for a different optical problem. Every image below is a real DepthGaze capture — your phone's camera on the left, DepthGaze applying that mode on the right, captured at the same instant.

04 · Pro  · The full toolkit

Tools for reading the scene.

A second tier for serious use — extra processing modes (DeGlare, Deep Boost, Edge Reveal, Spectral, Structure) plus automatic mode selection, scene scoring, and tools that calibrate the camera to the conditions you're actually shooting in.

P / 01 · Structure

Structure.

Visualises relative depth as warm contour bands, like a nautical chart of the bottom you're looking at. Bands are illustrative only — never a numeric depth measurement.

P / 02 · Smart

Smart Mode.

Reads scene brightness, turbidity, and colour cast and picks the right mode automatically. Switches as conditions change.

P / 03 · Spot Score

Spot Score.

A live qualitative reading of how readable the current scene is. Higher is clearer. Useful for finding the best window in changing light.

P / 04 · Image Tools

Image Tools.

Auto-Calibrate Colour, White Balance Calibration, Red Synthesis, Focus Peaking. Per-scene controls for when the defaults don't match your conditions.

Launch price on DepthGaze Pro runs until 28 February 2027 — then the standard price applies. One-time purchase — no subscription, no renewals. Each store shows the price in your local currency.

05 · Who it's for  · Outdoor people

If you spend time looking down at water, this is for you.

DepthGaze is a tool, not a gimmick. Built for the people who actually use water cameras in the field.

Anglers.

Find fish. Read structure. Pick spots before you cast. From boats, piers, jetties, and shore.

Boaters.

Watch fish, structure, and bottom detail from the deck or the shore — your phone stays above the surface.

Tide-poolers.

Read rockpool life without disturbing it. Identify what's there from the water's edge.

Shore walkers.

Kayakers, jetty fishers, beachcombers — anyone who looks down at water and wishes they could see more.

06 · FAQ  · Honest answers

What people ask first.

If your question isn't here, email support@depthgaze.com — we read every message.

Does DepthGaze work below the surface?
No. It's a tool for looking down at the water from above — boat, pier, shore, jetty. The phone's camera stays dry. Submerging the phone is your call (and your warranty's), but DepthGaze isn't designed for it.
Does it measure depth?
No. The Structure feature visualises relative depth as banded zones, like a nautical chart of the visible bottom. It does not produce numeric depth, distance, or measurement readings of any kind. It's a visual aid, not a depth gauge.
Does it work at night?
No. Low Light mode lifts dawn, dusk, and heavy-overcast scenes — situations with weak ambient light. Full night with no ambient illumination is outside what the camera sensor can see. We're honest about that rather than pretending otherwise.
Does it work in murky water?
Only up to a point. DepthGaze enhances what's already there — it doesn't reveal what isn't. If you can't see the fish through the surface with your own eyes, DepthGaze can't either. Best in clear and lightly-tinted water (clean ocean, estuary, lake). Heavily silted, post-storm, or peat-stained brown water limits how deep DepthGaze can usefully process. Physics has limits.
What phones does it work on?
Android first — recent flagship and mid-range devices with a decent rear camera. iOS is planned and may launch alongside Android. Specific minimum-spec details will be confirmed at launch.
Does it use AI?
No. DepthGaze is built on classical computer vision — Beer-Lambert colour restoration, multi-frame stacking, percentile contrast, edge detection. No machine learning, no neural networks. The processing happens entirely on your phone.
Is my data private?
Yes. No telemetry, no analytics, no cloud upload, no third-party tracking. Photos save to your phone's gallery and stay there. The app's network use is limited to the app store's standard check of whether you own the Pro upgrade, plus optional reverse geocoding of saved-photo location tags — an opt-in feature, off by default, that you control via Settings → Save Location With Photos.
Will there be a free version?
Yes. Standard mode, Low Light, full-resolution capture, and saving are free. DepthGaze Pro unlocks the rest of the processing modes (DeGlare, Deep Boost, Edge Reveal, Spectral, Structure) plus the smart and analysis tools (Smart Mode, Spot Score, Image Tools) — a one-time purchase, not a subscription. Pricing details land closer to launch.
Where can I get it?
It's available now on both the App Store and Google Play — download links are in the Download section below. Free to start, with a one-time Pro upgrade. No subscription.
